For most of my career, I have been a passionate product leader at software companies building and delivering AEC software solutions to construction companies around the world. My hands-on leadership style, strategic product planning, and ability to inspire cross-functional teams have resulted in successful product launches, profitable revenue growth, and successful exits. I have delivered solutions across the full construction project lifecycle and for all the major AEC personas and business types, from small specialty contractors to general contractors and facility owners.

My expertise lies in helping growing software companies drive revenue growth and market expansion through go-to-market strategies. Across industries, I have a proven track record of launching and marketing successful products aligned with customer needs, resulting in successful exits and a 10x increase in company valuation.

At Accruent, I focused on property owner personas by remotely leading a product team that translated product and service features into compelling, benefit-based storytelling that resonated with asset and facility owners globally.  Starting with capital planning software and services, I expanded my role to cover the full gamut of solutions for real estate property owners, including work management systems, space planning, and more.  I led successful product launches and integrated acquired companies to enhance product offerings and ensure a smooth transition for customers. The company doubled its headcount and tripled its valuation in two years, leading to a successful multi-billion dollar exit.

As VP of Product Marketing & Alliances at InEight, I focused on the specialty contractor and general contractor personas.  I led a team that wrote compelling product content and sales scripts, enabling the sales organization to efficiently target buyer personas and reach sales targets. I oversaw win/loss analysis, customer advisory council, competitive landscape and differentiation, strategic marketing materials, product positioning, and solution launches, using reporting of key metrics to guide our efforts. The company doubled its revenue and headcount within three years.

Primavera Systems
, now part of Oracle, was my launchpad into the construction industry.  I started on the technical side of things as a Software Tester and made a jump after 3+ years over to the Marketing side of the business, where I built out a new Alliance Management role.  My mission was to build out a software ecosystem around our platform, helping us become the de facto standard in construction project management software.  Over 8 years, I built a vibrant network of over 200 complementary software and service partners who integrated into our platform via our API and SDK.  Along the way, I leveraged my product marketing skills to promote the combinations and create happier joint customers.  And, sometimes, we licensed products or acquired partner companies, and I became the product manager of these newly-adopted solutions.  A great example of this is the Earned Value Management System (EVMS) which became part of the Primavera portfolio as Primavera Earned Value.  I still have a network of friends and former colleagues around the world based on my time at Primavera.

Finally, at DecisionEdge, I moved from Primavera to one of our partner companies, where I wanted an opportunity to unleash my entrepreneurial spirit.  This new company provides business intelligence software for construction projects and other project-driven industries.  My creative advertising won awards and the company grew with customers around the world, including some doing construction work in the education and government markets.

Overall, I’m an expert in product leadership with a proven track record of successfully launching and marketing products aligned with customer needs in the construction industry. My skills and experience would make me a valuable asset to any organization looking to grow its market presence and revenue.

“I have worked with and managed John for over 3 years. Throughout my career, I have never met a better Product Marketer. When I changed companies, I brought John with me. He consistently produces high-quality work, is thorough and meticulous. John is a great team player, thinks strategically, and always looks for ways to contribute. I have enjoyed working with him and could always count on his opinion.”
